Initiated in 1993, this program focuses on helping middle school and high school teachers (grades 7-12) incorporate Asia-related materials into their classrooms. The project is closely linked with Rice's Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Center for Asian Studies, the Baker Institute's Transnational China Project, and the National Consortium on Teaching about Asia. The Rice program provides a number of audiovisual and textual materials for teachers and students at its on-campus office (Room 110, Rayzor Hall). Additional curricular materials are available on the websites of the Chao Center, the Transnational China Project, and the National Consortium on Teaching about Asia.
A significant feature of the Rice program is its series of Faculty Development Institutes on East Asia. For details on the next Institute (including application materials), see the Chao Center website. Funding for these Institutes has been generously provided by the Freeman Foundation and the Brown Foundation. The Asia Outreach and Global Education program is operated in conjunction with the Center for Education.
