In the fall of 2002, the Model Science Lab Project expanded to train high school teachers at the new Lee High School lab in Houston I.S.D. The lab ‘s focus is on Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC) and Biology. Teachers at the lab explore alternative methods of conveying science concepts that are more effective than the lecture and directed activity approach that is commonly used in high school science classes. Resident Teachers are selected from attendees of a semester-long course at the Rice University Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology. In this class, teachers review basic science concepts that are utilized by Rice University researchers to explain their projects and future implications of nanotechnology. Teachers in the class have the opportunity to apply for summer internships in nano research labs at Rice University.
