A Deeper Look at Stories

How can teachers beccome more intentional in their use of individual dictation and dramatization in their classrooms?

During this two-day seminar, participants will:
• Review current research as it pertains to the dictation/dramatization of children's stories
• Look closely at how teacher-student interaction impacts children's story dictation
• Learn ways to enhance ESL students' success with both dictation and dramatization
• Develop questioning skills to help individualize each child's dictation experience and help children get the most out of these one-on-one interactions
• Analyze actual story dictation transcripts
• Participate in small group discussions of the cognitive and socio-emotional goals of the story dictation process
• Examine the important role of dictation/dramatization in ongoing, dynamic assessment
