"One Authentic Early Literacy Practice and Three Standardized Tests: Can a Storytelling Curriculum Measure Up?" by Patricia M. Cooper (founding director of SLC), Karen Capo (current director of SLC), Bernie Mathes (former director of SLC), and Lincoln Gray, has been published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Early Childhood Teacher Education, 28: 251-275, 2007. The results of this research show that participants in a storytelling curriculum showed significant gains in both vocabulary knowledge and literacy skills, compared with a control group of similar background.

Judy Rolke, Associate Director of the School Literacy and Culture Project, has written an article on the value of play. Published in the Advocate by the Houston Area Association for the Education of Young Children, her essay, Play the Profession of Children, expands our understanding of "one of the richest and most natural ways for children to learn."
