Miriam F. Vicente
BIOGRAPHY

Miriam F. Vicente is the Enrollment Coach and Advisor for students in EDUC. She provides valuable information, guidance and offers support to interested students in Master of Arts in Teaching, Alternative Certification and Principal Certification. She also serves as an advisor, meeting with students on their plan of study.

Miriam received her Bachelor of Science in bilingual education from the University of Houston. She began her career in education teaching second grade bilingual students at Davila Elementary and Lantrip Elementary for eight years. She then worked at Bonner Elementary as a Reading Specialist for the John Hopkins University-Success for All Reading program, where she coached and supported teachers with the implementation of effective reading strategies for all students. During her two years in this position, Miriam earned her Master of Science in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston. After two years as a Reading Specialist and providing professional development for teachers and parents, she returned to Lantrip Elementary as Assistant Principal. As a school leader in Houston ISD for twenty-four years, she coached and led professional learning communities (PLC’s), supervised instruction and implemented new initiatives for the district. She participated in various organizations, NABE, TABE, HAABE, TEPSA and HASA. She attributes her thirty-two successful years in education to the delightful community nestled in Houston’s East End for her success and as well as her amazing family.

Miriam has a supportive husband and two beautiful daughters. Her oldest daughter is a third-grade teacher in Houston ISD and her youngest daughter is a production assistant in Hollywood.

When she is not at work, Miriam loves to take long walks and enjoys traveling.
